Sharm El Sheikh’s own high season runs almost year-round thanks to the Red Sea, but Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza sit in a proper desert climate — and that makes timing your day trip matter more than it does for the beach.

The Short Answer

October through March is the best window for a Cairo day trip from Sharm El Sheikh. Temperatures at Giza sit between roughly 21°C and 30°C (70–85°F) across these months, the desert sun is intense but manageable, and you can comfortably spend hours outdoors at the Pyramids without retreating for shade every ten minutes.

November is arguably the single best month — daytime temperatures of around 20–28°C, low humidity, and a lower chance of the Khamsin desert winds that occasionally kick up dust and reduce visibility during spring. December through February bring the coolest, driest conditions of the year, though skies can occasionally be hazier.

Why Summer Is a Different Trip Entirely

From May through September, Giza regularly sees daytime temperatures above 35°C (95°F), and July can push past 37°C (99°F) with the desert wind occasionally driving it higher still. If your trip lands in summer, it’s not a dealbreaker — tours run year-round, and the Grand Egyptian Museum and Egyptian Museum of Antiquities both offer air-conditioned relief between outdoor stops — but the hours spent outside at the Pyramids, on a camel, or walking Khan El Khalili’s open-air lanes will be genuinely demanding. Sun protection, water, and pacing yourself matter far more.

Popular time slots — especially early-morning departures that beat both the heat and the crowds at Giza — can sell out during peak winter weeks (Christmas, New Year, and around Easter).
